Stop Smoking Facts

The clusters of people seen outside most office buildings (usually cloaked in a miasma of tobacco smoke), are ready to suffer for their habit. Sweltering in the summer and freezing in the winter, four or five times a day they brave the elements to get their nicotine fix; and every time they do, they are costing YOUR company money.

But just how much money are they costing your company?

In addition, companies have the added potential expense of the government smoking ban.  From July 1st this year, companies will be fined £200 for not displaying the 'No Smoking' signs and £2,000 for any employee caught smoking on their premises.

Now initially this may not be a problem, because everyone is very aware, through media coverage, of the penalties of the smoking ban. However, as the months progress, the importance of this new law will diminish.  Posters will fall or be taken down, and staff will slowly start to take the chance of a quick cigarette where they think they can't be seen.  Unfortunately if this happens, it is the companies that will lose.  Individual staff members may be fined £200, but companies will be penalised to the tune of £2,000 every time a staff member is caught smoking and £200 for every sign not displayed.
